Labda's story

Where is that point…

..when someone realizes in time that having a dog could be expensive and it could be fatigue some times. That a dog needs attention, needs care?

Because there is a time that someone could expend on his dog financially, mentally and physically in order to take care of the dog as a good owner, a ‘good master’. When the dog is not tied (because of escaping), it is fed, it is vaccinated, and it is brought to the vet in case of illness. Because illness does not select. It reaches the child and the old too.

It reached Labda too - the 13 years-old vizsla mother – not only reached her, but attacked her many times.
A kind animal lover called our attention to Labda and asked us to help the dog if we could, although Labda had an owner but he did not pay attention to his four-legged friend at all for some reason.
That time all we knew about Labda that she was extremely thin and bone and that one of her eyes was in disastrous condition. The owners were ready to renounce Labda for the benefit of our Association. So we went to rescue Labda on 24th May 2012. We were ready for the worst things and for a heavy match. Labda lived with her 6 years old daughter, who we would have liked to rescue too, because according what we were told the family was not able - financially or morally - to having dogs at all.
It is said that human fantasy sometimes outperforms reality. In this case it was the opposite of that: reality went beyond our previous conceptions.
At our arrival, two wildly wagging vizsla welcomed us. Firstly we could not recognise which of them is Labda because of the darkness.
Reaching the light one of the most horrifying picture of my life awaited for me. The right eye of Labda was actually a bloody thing bulging from her eyehole frightfully.

I forced myself to stay calm and we signed the papers of taking Labda into our care. Then we started to talk about the other vizsla:

It was an unnecessary chatting:
-‘She is not mine, I will tell the owner to call you later.’ – they said.
-‘I do not think that you are able to take care of the dog. Because of inadequate treatment official proceedings could be held against of you.’ – I said.

This time they ‘won’. The other vizsla stayed there, we could not save her so far. But we do not give up. While we were there, in the house of this family, someone was shouting inside of me ‘WHY? WHY should they wait for this? Why do not ask for help in time? Why does someone have a dog if he is not able to take care of it carefully? Why and why?

Labda urgently needed medical care, treatment and observation. Therefore we took her immediately to a veterinary hospital. She is going to spend a long time there, because of her weight (she is only 20 kilograms), her inflamed ears, the strange tumescence on her body, her eye, which is going to be operated and she won’t be able to see with it anymore, the belly lymphatic glands that are the multiple of the normal size, her huge spleen, and this is not the end...
Labda is going to have several medical examinations, from which everything could come to light.
The medical treatments, her operation and optimizing of her general condition are going to cost a fortune. We will be very grateful if you could get your forces together again, as usual, when there is a big problem, no matter whether it is a puppy or an older one, a mix or a pure-breed. If you could donate the recovery of Labda with some forints, you do a lot! Because without your help it cannot manage!

About the future of Labda we could only tell you one good and certain thing: There is a place Labda can go to, there is a place where she is awaited after the hospital. She needs to become stronger. Please, keep your fingers crossed for Labda and donate for her.
Thank you very much.

News:

03. July

Sometimes I simply could not write down my thoughts...Today is such a day, there is chaos everywhere. I try to hide fright and sadness, I must hide my feelings, I don't want her to feel them.
Labda didn't eat at all on Sunday, and only drink a bit (using gentle violence). We thought that this is because of the heat days. She was lying in the cold living room all day long, resting. Then came the black diarrhoea in the evening....Our first thoughts was blood, digested blood.
We went to the hospital on Monday and the vet said us that the melena caused the blooding of the digestive system. And the melena could have created from the tumour. And we all know that Labda has several tumours.
L
The following sentence has been on my mind since yesterday: “Where is that point?”
I really don’t know. There are medical examinations, but who decides what to do and what is the best for her? She is 13 years old and her general condition is a tragedy, therefore we wouldn’t like to make treatments and examination which are made during
anesthesia.
„Where is that point? Where it is?”
She will never be the same again, she will never be healthy. We only would like her to become better, to spend her retired days with us happily. But now I do not know if she could get these things. I feel that despites our best we are not able to overwrite her faith, if we have faith at all.
We try to do everything in order to Labda feels herself better. Yesterday she got infusion treatments. She is going to get today and tomorrow too. And we try to think about only the present. Thinking about the good feeling that she is with us.

22 June

Labda also feels that rainy weather, and sleeps a lot. Besides this the feeding-process is set: for breakfast she eats only a little, but for dinner she eats her whole portion. Naturally she gets the chicken meat next to the dog food J

She smiles for the world more and more, and she uses her right back leg more than used to, therefore her walk is more stable. (We would like to take her swim a bit sometimes. Maybe it helps for her atrophied muscles. But we will ask the vet about this action.)

So, she is growing fat, smiling, make herself celebrated like a real, normal vizsla. :)

17 June
One day is better, than the other is worse. One day she eats... then on the other she doesn’t. Tomorrow the sutures will be removed and we will get to know more about her health.
Labda spends long hours in the garden with us, she likes sleeping outdoor. Sometimes she drinks, goes and comes, then falls, we help her.
She is like an old lady, spends her days, she knows nobody, knows nothing, but she is smiling and happy.
We give her the vitamins, her medicines, and vitamin B complex (in order to have a better appetite)
Every day is a gift for us because we have her, for her to live happily. Please keep your fingers crossed for Labda that she could spend more and more days happily with us!

14 June
Fortunately Labda has eaten. :) We were very anxious last day when she didn’t want to eat (and in the evening she was trembling and she was cold).
So we started to give her Vetri DMG and Mirzaten (increasing appetite) medicines. The result could be already seen: she ate her breakfast.
It is only me who has to stop this impatient and worried attitude…

12 June
I was about to start worrying about Labda, because she had seemed to be very passive than usual, when she started to play with me! :)
She was worming on the sofa and murmuring while playing mouth-karate with my hands!
Then we took a walk in the rainy wood, she enjoyed it very much. Now she is ont he couch and snoring. She is a real angel.

10 June
Labda arrived to her new home: a detached house with a huge garden. Her first thing to do was a long sleep then she started her journey of discovery. It is very difficult for her to cope with the new things, the new home because she is almost totally blind and deaf. But she doesn't give up! She comes and goes, bumps things, then bypass them. She got accomodation in the living room, in the garden she could only wander in leash. She went with her new pack to a short short walk in the woods, she was stomping it like a real hero and she proved it again that the adaptability of dogs are wonderful: although she nearly blind and deaf, she followed the signs of her leash and walked safely.
In the evening she ate her special turbo food (with a little chicken soup), then as every good vizsla found the couch :) Although it is a fact that the health of Labda is equal to zero, but she is HAPPY. She has got no pain. she is not dissatisfied, she loves to eat, loves to walk, loves stroke (while she is murmuring of course like good vizslas).  We do not need to feel sorry for Labda, we need to learn from her. Learn patience, deceleration, adaptation and resumption.
Hereby we wish Labda happiness, and more time living with us, living with her new and  loving family!

28 May
New report about our Labda's condition: her eye is cleaned every day. It is a very painful area, therefore this procedure is made during narcotism. She can hear a bit, so far her ears are treated by ear drops. The inflammation is chronic, and assumed to be allergic. The most of the problems are awating for Labda. We are waiting for the result of the samples sent to cytological examination. She gets immune strengthening and roborating medicines. Her appetite is changing, but she hasn't got fever fortunately.
Keep your fingers crossed for her please.

26 May
Labda had a surgery yesterday: her right eye had to be removed. The doctors did not want her to sleep too long, so her ears weren't operated yet. Labda is OK, she seems to be housebroken, as she always pees during the short, careful walks. Some of our volunteers visit her regularly at the hospital.
